In order to be successful as an artist, it's important to focus on your target audience. Trying to appeal to everyone will only result in appealing to no one. A good way to determine your target audience is by looking at your music's genre. For example, if you're a metal band, your target audience is going to be different than a pop band. Once you've determined your target audience, it's important to tailor your marketing efforts specifically for them. This means using language and images that resonate with them, and targeting the channels where they're most likely to be active. By focusing on your target audience, you'll be able to better connect with them and convert them into fans.

Audience

In order to be a successful musician, you need to understand your audience. This means analyzing and understanding the demographics of your fans, their interests and the environment in which they live. It's also important to know your listener’s desires, dreams and unique life challenges they might be going through. Another way of phrasing this is knowing the needs of your audience. When you "get" your audience, you can customize your message and content to speak to those life challenges and desires. By doing all this, you can create a connection with your fans that will allow them to feel understood. From your consistency in speaking directly to them, they’ll develop an expectation that your content will resonate with them. And with that, they’ll keep coming back for more!

Quality

Knowing the difference between what is “good” and what you “like” could be the key to becoming a successful songwriter/producer. Just because you don’t like it, doesn’t mean it’s not good. There is music that you like. And there is music that is good. The two are independent of each other, even though sometimes they overlap, like this: What is Good? From a songwriter’s perspective “Good” is defined by whether the song achieves what it has set out to achieve. Are the three basic components: lyrics, melody, and chords doing the job you employed them to do?
